Argentina

Argentina's vibrant, wonderfully idiosyncratic capital, BUENOS AIRES, is the third largest city in Latin America, after Brazil's Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo. More European than South American in flavor, Buenos Aires' heart boasts bustling streets, grand avenues, old-time cafes and stylish restaurants. It's a city of tragedy and elation; a vibrant, cosmopolitan capital where locals are renowned for their flair and cockiness, even in times of adversity.

Buenos Aires is the third largest city in South America and comprises 47 barrios (neighbourhoods) in which nearly three million people live. Situated in the east of Argentina beside the Rio de la Plata and surrounded by seemingly never ending flat land known as the Pampas...

The downtown area is as noisy and congested as any other major urban centre, but the city is really a pleasant place to walk around. Cinemas and art galleries, jazz clubs and theatres, atmospheric cafes and antiques markets abound, while exercising or just lazing around in beautifully landscaped parks filled with subtropical vegetation are part of the dynamic yet laid-back porteno lifestyle.

Spring and fall are tourist low seasons in BA and are the best times to visit. Hot summer nights, however, make for a wonderful experience. There are year-round festivals celebrating everything from fashion to dance to wine, though springtime sees the lion's share of these events. If you're here during winter, nights can drop to bone-chilling cold, so bring a warm jacket.
